POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

This is a full-time mid-level (40 hour/week) position in the Plymouth Public Works Department.
Starting salary is $25.83 per hour. This position comes with generous Health Benefits.  This is a Union Position included in the Teamsters Local No. 677 and subject to all conditions. CDL license is mandatory.

Part of a team that is responsible for the:

  • Construction and maintenance of streets, roads, bridges, culverts, sidewalks, roadside development and related activities;
  • Maintenance and repair of the public works facilities;
  • Maintenance, repair, operation and proper use of the equipment and materials;
  • Winter plowing and treating of the roads of the Town of Plymouth and related activities
  • Maintenance, repair and/or care of other Town facilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Construction of and repair and maintenance of streets, roads, bridges, culverts, sidewalks, roadside development and related activities;
  • Winter care of the roadways to include salting, snow removal, tree removal and related functions;
  • Operations, maintenance and repair of all public works equipment and tools;
  • Maintenance of the public works facilities both interior and exterior.
  • Available for emergency operations including snow removal, and other operations
  • Duties are not limited to the above, other duties may be assigned as necessary
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe personal work environment for and complying with safety procedures and training.
  • Operate or assist in the operation of the Transfer Station and Leaf and Brush Facility
  • Operate heavy trucks, vehicles and equipment for the purpose of road maintenance, hauling, loading and snow and ice removal;
  • During snow and ice conditions, load, plow and sand public roads and facilities; shovel and clear public ways as required;
  • Make routine highway maintenance decisions involving equipment operations and maintenance and safe driving and safe work practices;
  • Possess good knowledge, skills and ability in heavy equipment operations, basic preventive maintenance procedures and safe driving and work practices;

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Must be knowledgeable in the safe operation of snowplows, heavy equipment, hand tools, chain saws, as well as materials and maintenance methods relating to the construction and maintenance of roads and related structures. Must have a High School diploma or GED

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing in a Public Works Department. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and regularly works inside a highway garage facility. The employee frequently works near moving equipment and/or vehicles and is frequently exposed to vibration and high noise levels when near the equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The applicant must have the physical strength and agility to do strenuous labor under all weather conditions. The physical demands include the ability to regularly to sit, stand, walk, handle small items with fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Required:  Must have a CDL Driver’s license. In the event the license is suspended, the Town may terminate employment. Must have a current medical card.

Preferred:  Trained Diesel and heavy equipment maintenance skills
Knowledge and experience mowing using a flail mower, winter plowing, small equipment maintenance, operation of a backhoe, wheeled loader and other heavy equipment. Ability to use a transit or laser level to establish grades and accurately set drainage structures.
